Assessments
WIST
-
Before beginning intervention, I assess each student using the Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST) which is a standardized achievement test that is used to identify students who are having difficulty with fundamental literacy skills and to isolate specific areas of weakness for struggling readers.
WADE -
Then I assess students with the Wilson Assessment of Decoding and Encoding (WADE) to determine a starting place in the Wilson Reading System. This is a criterion-referenced assessment that helps to determine placing and pacing for the program.
-
These assessments are used both as a baseline assessment and end-of year annual assessment to track student growth over time.
Additional Assessments -
Please submit any additional assessments that you may have as well as observations or diagnosis that you feel may be helpful. (examples: Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests-III, Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement (KTEA-3), Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ-IV) Tests of Achievement, Woodcock-Johnson III Diagnostic Reading Battery, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test III, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-IV (WIAT-4), or other helpful tests.)
Progress Monitoring -
After students complete each step of the program, they are given an End of Step Assessment to make sure they have mastered all skills before moving onto the next step of the program. If they are still struggling with a skill, the skill will be retaught and solidified before moving on to the next step.
-
Student progress is also monitored during each lesson in order to create lessons plans that are diagnostic and prescriptive.
